Christian fundamentalists: a group of Christians that largely supports the Republican party and conservative values

Christian nationalism: a political ideology that focuses on passing laws that reflect their view that America is a Christian nation

Christianity: the religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices

denomination: subgroup within a religion that operates under a common name, tradition, and identity; there are more than 200 Christian denominations in the U.S.

fundamentalist: a person who believes in the strict, literal interpretation of scripture in a religion

hermeneutics: the branch of knowledge that deals with interpretation, especially of the Bible or literary texts

progressive Christianity: a post-modern theological approach that questions tradition, accepts human diversity, and places a strong emphasis on social justice and care for the poor and the oppressed and on environmental stewardship

secular: denoting attitudes, activities, or other things that have no religious or spiritual basis
